The National Capital Equitation League (NCEL), founded in 1979, seeks to promote and foster team spirit while developing individual riders; to foster and encourage the art of equitation; and to reward junior riders for excellence in this art. The NCEL is comprised of riding schools throughout Maryland and Virginia. Teams compete at member riding facilities from November through March in a series of round-robin meets patterned after the intercollegiate leagues. Maintree supports an "A" and a "B" team, and Maintree riders demonstrating skill and potential may be invited to join.

Teams compete against other barns and are judged solely on their equitation. When competing at another barn, riders show horses from the host barn. Fees for the team include all practices, shows, and awards.

For more information about the NCEL, please visit the NCEL Website.

Maintree has recently begun competing in the National Capitol Adult Equestrian League (NCAEL). Riders must be at least 30-years-old to participate and cannot have shown over fences exceeding 2' 9" in height within the last five years.

For more information about the NCAEL, please visit the NCAEL Website.
